I wish the work would fot my bill. I settled on the Gateway M680X. It looked like it would be the best for work and play. I just hope I picked the right one and got the best deal (waits to see it for $200 cheaper next week). Chaser, it has a 17" screen too, although I don't think the speakers will be as nice as yours. As the title says, I'm looking for some suggections, advice or information on a notebook computer. I intend to be away for work quite a bit this year and am looking to buy a notebook computer to have for games, email, dvd, letters, multimedia, presentations, work and such. I am looking for a good all around that will do justice to games and make them fun, not slow and boring. Also, if anyone has any coupon codes for Dell, HP, or Gateway, or BestBuy type of stores I would greatly appreciate them as well. I am seriously considering a Dell Inspiron 6000, a Gateway 3700+, or an HP dv4000 for purchase. Please let me know if you have goods/bads others for certain brands and processors. I am looking to keep it around the $1300-1500 range. My eyes are bleeding from all the cnet.com and computing articles I have been reading trying to figure out which is best and I figured folks here might make it easier with real-life experience from these products. Thanks!

Gateway? *wince*

My sister had a Gateway Desktop once..

I say once because she got rid of it and got a Dell laptop..

And the fact it never worked right a month after they got it didn't help her decision to switch any heh.

The Dell Inspiron 6000 was nice, I looked at it a lot and the only thing I didn't like was that I a choice of video cards on it. I am hoping that I don't run into any problems with the Gateway, it just came down to more for the money and Gateway could get it to me quicker since I needed it in less than 10 days. *Keeps fingers crossed*

It's a tad more expensive than your budget, but if you could get yourself a Dell XPS you'd never regret it.
I lost count of how many portables and indeed full spec'd PCs I had so far, this guy beats them all blindfolded.
The screen is something else, u get the whole range of connectivity bits all on board (Ethernet, modem, wireless, bluetooth, FireWire, SVI, COmposite V ...), disk is a fat 60Gb at 7200rpm, new Centrino M Processor at 2.13Ghz (faster than a PIV 3200Ghz and optimized for wireless and gaming), 1Gb of DDR2 memory and the icing on the cake, a nVidia 6800 256Mb Go video card !!! Sound is exceptionally good with front and sides speakers, 5.1 support and subwoofer all mounted on the case.
I know it is a bit more expensive than the rest, but beats the competition through-out ...
Oh did I mention you get 63.4 fps on Doom 3 running at full details on 1600x1200.
Oh did I also mention screen is wide 17" with a native resolution of 1920x1200 ??
If this did not sound enthusiastic enough ... they should give me a job in the Dell sales dep
